Geboortebericht

Hands off.

Loving the little years

Tropenjaren.

Spuitluiers, ruzies, snotneuzen, wasladingen, krampjes, concurrentie, spruw, overal rommel, slaapgebrek, ongelukjes, moddersporen, graaihandjes, stampvoeten ....

Vriendjes

Vriendjes, dat zijn ze echt. Elkaars beste vriendjes.

The baby is the lesson

Our littlest little one is so cute. He's growing so fast and becomes still sweeter every day. We are getting used to our life together with Jona. My energy is sort of back (those nights..) and life has become sort of 'normal' again. That feels good. At home we do our daily things and also going out with three kids is no problem. Today I went shopping with my 3 kids! We went to several shops and bought 2 nice pairs of shoes. Man, am I proud of my sweeties! They are doing so well together. Although sometimes it can be hard to accept that the baby needs a lot of attention from mum, they do fine!! Boas and Fera are very fond of their little brother. And I feel blessed! So blessed with such a dear husband and three lovely children.

And the times that I feel that I don't do enough (quite often.. but it's such a lie!), I read this article: The baby ís the lesson.   Encouraging!

Bringing up kids

A while ago I bought these two books:

&

I found this very useful books, with a lot of information in it. Basically, it's about communicating with your children in a way that encourages them to become obedient, responsible, cooperating and kind to siblings.

To help me remind the different areas to pay attention to, I copied the reminders of the book and hung them in a place I often visit.

How to make siblings best friends?

Boas en Fera discovered a new game: playing restaurant. This started after we went to a pancake restaurant. So another good reason to go out for dinner more often :-)

And this is something we looooove to see as well! (They also do this in church. Isn't it cute?)

And here follows another picture of something they can do together very pleasantly.

And if we're lucky, they even teach good things to each other ...

Conclusion:
We are very happy with this brother and sister. We love to see them develop their close relationship. But this doesn't happen without a struggle! And that can be hard. For us as their parents, but also for them as siblings. Another homeschooling mom recommended the book: Siblings without rivalry by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. This book is a sequel to How to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk, so I ordered these books and hope they will help me to cope with my kids' feelings and those of myself. Hopefully we can guide them into a best-friends-relationship! (Oh, and that's why I also ordered Making brothers and sisters best friends; how to fight the good fight at home! ;-) Let's say, for the christian perspective ...)

(By the way, if you prefer to buy new books, the links connect you with www.bookdepository.co.uk , which is an attractive choice because they don't charge you delivery costs. If you don't mind second hand books, you could easily buy them at www.abebooks.co.uk, where some books are that cheap that you basically pay only the delivery costs.)

Obedience

More and more, I discover that you learn at best when there is full attention and complete obedience. Seems logical, but is not always easy. Because obedience requires from us consistent behaviour and sometimes I just don't want to be consistent and consistent and consistent... Sometimes I just want to do my own thing, without being distracted by behaviour that I need to correct immediately...

What inspired me the last time:

Raising Godly Tomatoes; Loving Parenting With Only Occasional Trips to the Woodshed written by L. Elizabeth Krueger. (see: www.raisinggodlytomatoes.com, with lots of other useful upbringing articles).

Charlotte Mason, about whom I probably will tell more later, has written a lot about raising and educating children. She includes obedience in education. Literally she says 'Education is a discipline - that is, the discipline of the good habits in which the child is trained. Education is a life, nourished upon ideas; and education is an atmosphere - that is, the child breathes the atmosphere emanating from his parent; that of the ideas which rule their own lives'. (see: www.simplycharlottemason.com, where you can buy books or download (some free) e-books that are based on her ideas.

'How to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk' and 'Siblings without rivalry' written by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. These are books that focus on how to communicate with your kids. They aim to bring about more cooperation from children than all the yelling and pleading in the world.

And the website http://aolff.org/sermons/kindness-vs-obedience , which focusses on godly behaviour and obedience through a living and godly example of the parents.
